If you are seeking an island resort with limited numbers of guests and superb food and accommodation, then Orpheus Island could well be the place for you. Orpheus Island is located in the group of islands that lie just to the north of Townsville and include Magnetic Island, Palm Island and Rattlesnake Island. Orpheus Island is also known as Goodbodd Island and is a National Park. The island itself is a long narrow island with a central ridge, several coves and bays and surrounding coral reefs. It is a secluded place which is ideal for bush walking, swimming, diving and fishing or just relaxing around the pool or on the beach in front of the resort. The climate is tropical and the resort is famous for its superbly maintained tropical gardens.

Orpheus Island resort has only 21 accommodation rooms and caters for very small guest numbers. There are no day trippers, or children and no tv or mobile phones. Access to the island is by air and regular seaplane services depart from Townsville airport and service the resort daily. The trip to the island provides absolutely spectacular scenery. Orpheus Island resort has a fast catamaran that provides its guests with several options. Trips to the outer Great Barrier Reef are available as well as dive and sightseeing trips to surrounding islands and reefs.

Orpheus Island has a reputation for providing fantastic food that is superior to any other island resort in Queensland. The pavilion style restaurant is located right on the beachfront and is open on the ocean side to provide diners with an uninterrupted view of their surroundings. Dinner is an award winning seven course degustation style affair that is world famous. Dinner is preceded by a wine and cheese tasting hosted by the islands chef. You can join the canapé class and learn the secrets of the trade or you can join the manager for a wine selection that includes tasting of special vintages that are never available to the general public.

The resort provides picnic hampers for guest wishing to go bushwalking for the day or for those who wish to take one of the islands motorized dinghies around the island to find a special protected cove of their own. Accommodation is provided in Orpheus retreat rooms or Nautilus Suites. Everything is right on the beachfront and quality and five star service are the order of the day.

No matter how far you look, you will be hard pressed to find a better resort than the one on Orpheus Island in the far north of Queensland, Australia.
